Now You Can Design Exercises For Your Students By Yourself

Assalamu'alaikum....

Regarding to education nowadays, we can't avoid to discuss about technology. To this matter, a lot of applications are provided to make teaching and learning process becomes more interesting. This time, I want to, a bit, tell you about one of the simplest application for designing students worksheet (for exercises).

Do you know Hot Potatoes? (bukan "panas kentang-kentang, yah ^^)

It is an application that gives you opportunity to design students' worksheet technologically; so that their practice time will be more exciting. Particularly, for ESL/EFL teachers, this application provides five optional features that allow them (and you) to arrange the exercises based on the topic of the lesson, and one more additional feature to put them all together; as these following explanations:

1. JCloze
The first sub-application is JCloze. It is very suitable to assess writing and reading skill; and for the sub-skill, it can be use for grammar and vocabulary. This is where you can make a reading text, and then put the blank space in some parts (it is based on the objective and the target of the exercise). The tools there are obviously easy to understand, even for the beginner creator. check this out:

2. JQuiz
The second one is JQuiz. As we can guess based on the name of the application (Quiz), this is useful for exercises which is in form of quiz; usually the questions have multiple choices of answer. Similar to JCloze above, the tools of this application is easily available for beginner; as you can see in this picture:

3. JCross
I believe that it is not something new for us, especially ESL/EFL teachers, when I say crossword. Yes, it is one of my favorite games, both in teaching and learning English. Along time ago, (lol) I made some boxes manually (through Microsoft Office or using paper, pencil and ruler). Now, it feels like those methods were used in Neolithic era. JCross is a valuable way to save your time, energy and equipment to build a crossword. You can arrange the answer-key first (based on the topic and the objectives of the lesson/exercise) and then you can make the clues/questions for each word, as you can see in this following picture:

4. JMatch
The next sub-application is JMatch. Creating application through this application aims to make the students (test takers) answer the questions by matching the answers with the clues. Basically, all the applications of Hot Potatoes provide the creator to upload pictures (make questions/answer using pictures); so showing pictures for types of questions made using this application is very useful for students' practice in vocabulary. As simple as the other applications; you just have to put the questions (clues) and the answer in the right place (based on the tools showed). Look at this picture:

5. JMix
The last one is JMix. Exercises that are made using this application is very good for students' practice in writing. It allows students to arrange sentence using the messed words. The way to create this type of question/exercise is very simple;

Oh yea! and one more application. This is not an item that allows you to create some forms of exercises (just like the applications mentioned above). It is a tool of Hot Potatoes which is aimed to let the creator to put all the works built using the applications above become one file.

After creating the exercises, you can save them in form html. and/or ZIP file.
I'm working on mine right now. I will upload  it as soon as it's finished. I hope you can check it as an example of  this article.
Also, I'm going to write the tutorial for this whenever I have time.
I hope this is useful for you. Let me know if there is something wrong and/or additional information related to this topic. I'm waiting for your suggestion. Thank you for visiting my blog, and don't forget to leave your comment below. See ya!

Wassalamu'alaikum......
