5 Good Songs for Teaching English

I'm talking about not-really-important stuffs, but actually important for you who can the lessons.
Today, I'm going to tell you about 5 Good Songs for Teaching English.
Or is it (b) training a dragon?
Or is it (c) warm up activity while improving your listening skill?
So the music's played, the western sing, and then the students will filling the blank in their worksheets based on the lyrics of the song.
It's not bad at all. Using musics/songs in classroom is not only for teaching listening; but also for teaching sub-skills like vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar, and for other skills like speaking.
So, what are they-the 5 good songs for teaching English?
1. Selena Gomez - Love You Like a Love Song
Beside for listening, pronunciation and speaking, this song is good enough for teaching vocabulary. For example, in teaching "Complement Expression". You can ask your students to mention adjectives that mentioned by Selena (the singer) in the song ("beautiful, best, incredible, etc."). Then, you can ask them to use the adjectives for their sentences or complement expressions. For the pronunciation, students can repeat the words after the singer.
It is okay to use song which is talking about love; as the importance is the lyrics when we can learn the lesson.
2. Miley Cyrus - Butterfly Fly Away
This is very good song, which is not only about materials and lessons based on the book, but also for real life lesson. As the meaning of this song is very deep and strong; this can be great motivation for students. By interpreting or explaining the meaning behind the lexical meaning of some particular parts of this song:
e.g.:
Caterpillar in the tree
How you wonder who you be
Can go far, but you can always dream
Wish you may, and wish you might
Don't you worry hold on tight
I promise you, there will come a day, butterfly fly away...
This is dedicated for higher level students; as the main purpose is to lead them to have critical thinking.

Beside the clear pronunciation, this song also has "sweet" meaning which can grab students' (especially teenagers) interest. Also, this is a perfect song to teach perfect tense: "Romeo save me, I've been feeling so alone." As the meaning is deep, students probably will remember it easily and understand the function of perfect tense in real situation.
4. Bruno Mars - Count on Me
This song is talking about friendship which means can stuck in students' mind just like love songs. Beside the vocabulary which commonly used by native (like "count on me"), this song has part which is good for tongue twister (to improve their pronunciation):
"If you toss and you turn and you just can't fall asleep"
5. Do You Wanna Build a Snowman
This is very good song; for young, teenagers or even adult learners. This is useful for improving every skills and sub-skills. Some common native terms which are quite unpopular in Indonesia appear in this song; overdue, snowman, etc. The pronunciation is very clear; additionally, as the sound of the singer is cute (young Anna), students may imitate her in singing the song. This is good for their pronunciation practice.
